A Whimsical Maternity Session at Cove Spring Nature Park in Frankfort, Kentucky | Voodoo Imagery

Just a short distance from Buffalo Trace Distillery, tucked quietly along the cliff base, sits a nature preserve that feels both whimsical and ancient in equal measure. Hidden from the rush of everyday life, this peaceful stretch of land provided the perfect backdrop for a maternity session that feels pulled straight from the pages of a fantasy adventure book.

What was once a reservoir that supported the local trout population is now known as Cove Spring Nature Park—and it brought this vision to life effortlessly. From the cascading waterfall and stone garden to the historic tower rising above open fields framed by soaring trees, every corner of the park offered space to explore, pause, and create. So much so, in fact, that Kristen and Kelsey traveled all the way from Corydon, Indiana to experience it for themselves here in Frankfort, KY.

As you move through this session, the connection between Kristen and Kelsey becomes undeniable. There is an anchored, grounded love between them—steady and protective. Kelsey carries a quiet strength, rooted and unwavering like the trees surrounding us. Kristen, by contrast, embodies both softness and power, flowing with the same force and grace as the waterfalls nearby. Together, they exist in perfect balance.

This was a session where nature and subject blended seamlessly. Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt staged. The result is a cinematic, emotionally rich body of work that invites you not just to see the images, but to feel them.

The trees and native Kentucky foliage had already slipped away for the season, leaving bare branches and quiet ground behind—a reminder that rest is not an ending, but a necessary pause before something new begins. Much like the season Kristen and Kelsey are stepping through now, this session honored the in-between. A moment to slow down. To be present. To celebrate the life they are bringing into the world before everything changes.

Throughout the day, there was movement and joy—frolicking through the paths, dancing without an audience, quiet embraces, laughter echoing through the trees. It was less about documenting a pregnancy and more about honoring transition, lineage, becoming, and love in its rawest form. A damn good time, spent bringing a shared vision to life after weeks of dreaming it into existence.

The goal of this session was to embody elegance, perseverance, transition, passion, and timelessness in an editorial way—while still carrying the creative edge Voodoo Imagery is known for. I am a documentary and fine art photographer at heart. I am drawn to those who value experience over perfection, creativity over convention, and intimacy over performance.

Because the ordinary deserves to be remembered.
